Of course you’re not going to lose weight if you’re not eating right, exercising and taking care of yourself. But if you’re doing everything right and still can’t seem to lose weight, there could be something else going on. Here are some unexpected reasons you can’t lose weight.

  1. Digestion Issues

Your gut / digestion system is known as your second brain, it is that important! Digestion issues can cause weight gain and difficulty in losing weight. I have had digestion issues for years and they finally got so bad that I did something about it. After lots of testing and being on medication for just a few weeks, I felt SO much better and started losing weight that I had gained, without even really trying. You will know if you have digestion issues – and if you do, I recommend going to get yourself checked out ASAP before it becomes a bigger issue.

  1. Sleep

Sleep affects your hormones that control hunger and the feeling of fullness. When you don’t get enough sleep, you’ll have more of the hormones that make you feel hungry and you will tend to eat more and crave unhealthy food. Make sure you’re getting 7-8 hours of quality sleep per night so these hormones are in check!

  1. Stress

Again with the hormones – high levels of stress cause constantly elevated levels of cortisol (a hormone). Cortisol causes fat storage, especially around your stomach. High levels of stress on your body can be caused by a stressful work environment, stress at home, and also physical stress such as overtraining.

  1. Hormones

Other hormone levels such as testosterone, estrogen, growth hormone, etc can impact on your ability to lose weight and unexplained weight gain. If you are doing everything right and still can’t seem to lose weight, then it could be worthwhile going to the doctor to get a hormone check.

  1. Prescription Medication

Some prescription medications can cause weight gain. It could be a side effect, or it could be that it increases your appetite. If you think this is the case, it is best to talk to you doctor.
